Is the Light Back On? Helping People Find a Way Forward

When the power goes out, life can come to a standstill.

No lights. No refrigeration. No comfortable place to escape extreme temperatures. No sense of security.

But for some individuals and families, the challenge isn't a temporary outage caused by a storm. It's the struggle to afford essential needs and find the help they need to keep moving forward.

At Lights Back On, we believe that light is more than electricity.

It's safety.

It's stability.

It's dignity.

It's hope.

And sometimes, it's simply knowing where to turn next.

When Help Exists, Finding It Shouldn't Be Another Hardship

People facing financial hardship may need help with more than one thing.

A household struggling to pay a utility bill may also be struggling with food.

Someone facing housing instability may also need transportation, educational supplies, or other essential resources.

And knowing that assistance might exist doesn't necessarily mean knowing where to find it, how to access it, or what to do next.

That's where Lights Back On comes in.

We Connect. We Guide. We Empower.

Lights Back On is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on information, resource navigation, and connecting people with potential sources of support.

We don't replace utility-assistance agencies, food programs, housing organizations, government programs, churches, or other community providers.

We help people find them.

Our goal is to make it easier for individuals and families to identify potential resources related to:

  • Utility assistance

  • Food assistance

  • Housing resources

  • Educational supplies and support

  • Community programs

  • Other essential-needs resources

Through information and resource navigation, we're working to help people move from:

“I need help, but I don't know where to start.”

to:

“I know what my next step may be.”

Is the Light Back On?

Maybe not yet.

But sometimes turning the light back on starts with something much smaller:

A connection.

A phone call.

A resource.

A community partner.

A piece of information.

A next step.

That's the work we're building at Lights Back On.

We want to help people find pathways to resources that may already exist within their communities—and help strengthen the connections between individuals, organizations, volunteers, and community partners.

Because No One Should Have to Navigate Alone

We envision a future where someone facing hardship doesn't have to search endlessly for answers or wonder where to turn.

A future where community resources are easier to find.

A future where organizations can work together more effectively.

And a future where a person who reaches out for help can receive information, direction, and a place to begin.

You Can Help Keep the Light Moving

There are several ways to support the mission:

CONNECT - Share Lights Back On with someone who may need information or resources.

GUIDE - Help us build relationships with organizations, churches, volunteers, and community partners.

EMPOWER - Support the infrastructure that allows us to strengthen our resource-navigation work.

Your donation doesn't have to represent a specific lantern, battery kit, or item delivered to a household.

Instead, your support helps build the people, technology, information, communication, partnerships, and systems behind the mission.

The Light May Start With a Resource.

But it can lead to a connection. A connection can lead to a next step. And a next step can help someone find a way forward.

Is the light back on?

We're working to help people find their way toward it.
