Light is a Right

No family should have to choose between a hot meal and paying the bills.

Blue house windows glow orange at dusk, revealing curtains, a chandelier, lamp, and chair inside.

In 2013, my wife and I learned firsthand what it meant to face that choice.

As first-time parents, we were caring for our newborn daughter while struggling financially. For approximately a year, our family lived without electricity. We relied on a portable heater and a hotplate to stay warm, prepare food, and care for our child.

That experience became the inspiration for Lights Back On, Inc.

We know what it feels like to wonder where help will come from.

We also learned something that continues to shape our mission today:

Sometimes people don't need someone to solve every problem for them. They need someone to help them find where to turn.

Light Is A Right

For us, "Light Is A Right" is about more than electricity.

It's about safety. Dignity. Opportunity. Hope.

A family facing a utility crisis may also be dealing with food insecurity, housing instability, financial hardship, transportation challenges, or other circumstances that make finding help even more difficult.

And while communities across Georgia have organizations working every day to address these needs, finding the right resource isn't always easy.

That's where Lights Back On comes in.

Connecting People With the Help They Need

Lights Back On is building its future as a 501(c)(3) Information & Referral and Resource Navigation organization.

We help individuals and families identify resources that may be available to them and connect them with trusted organizations, programs, and community partners.

Our work is about connecting the dots.

We help people navigate resources related to:

  • Utility assistance

  • Housing stability

  • Food and basic needs

  • Financial assistance

  • Emergency resources

  • Community services

  • Other essential needs

We don't have to provide every service ourselves.

We help people find the right door.

Your Support Helps Us Keep Connecting the Dots

Your contribution helps Lights Back On build the infrastructure needed to reach more people and connect them with reliable resources.

Your support can help us:

  • Expand and maintain our community resource network

  • Verify resource information so people can find accurate assistance

  • Develop resource-navigation tools

  • Support community outreach and education

  • Build partnerships with churches, nonprofits, businesses, and other organizations

  • Help individuals and families navigate available resources

Whether you give $25, $100, $500, or another amount, your contribution helps strengthen the network that connects people to help.

Be Part of the Light

You can help by:

Giving — Support the growth of Lights Back On.

Partnering — Help us connect your organization's resources with people who need them.

Volunteering — Help research resources, support outreach, and strengthen our community network.

Sharing — Someone you know may be looking for a place to start.

Because sometimes the first step toward getting someone's life back on track is simply helping them find the right resource.

Light Is A Right.

And no one should have to face a difficult time alone.
